Please understand that:
- This test has not been reviewed by the FDA
- Negative results do not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in those who have been in contact with the virus. Follow-up testing with a molecular diagnostic should be considered to rule out infection in these individuals.
- Results from antibody testing should not be used as the sole basis to diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection or to inform infection status.
- Positive results may be due to past or present infection with non-SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus strains, such as coronavirus HKU1, NL63, OC43, or 229E.
- Patient is under no obligation to have COVID19 point-of-care testing performed, and failure to do so does not preclude their ability to be sent for COVID19 testing should they meet CDC testing guidelines.
COVID-19 Screening FAQ's
Q. What type of test is this?
A. The rapid test we offer is a serological test which detects antibodies present in the blood when the body is responding to a specific infection, like COVID-19. In other words, the test detects the body’s immune response to the infection caused by the virus rather than detecting the virus itself. However, in the early days of an infection when the body’s immune response is still building, antibodies may not be detected. Q. How soon are test results reported?
A. Test results are reported back to the patient by one of our medical providers within 24 hours. The results from the test itself are rapid but must first be reviewed and confirmed by one of our medical providers, due to this process, as well as the increasing demand for testing the waiting period may take up to 24 hours for results to be reported. Q. How accurate is the test?
A. Our rapid antibody test kits have a reported 95% sensitivity (true positive) and a 91% specificity (true negative) rate in the detection of IgM antibodies. |
Q. How is the test administered?
A. The rapid antibody test is a finger prick test, which only requires a small finger prick to allow the collection of a few drops of blood for testing. Q. How soon after infection can the test detect antibodies in response to infection with COVID-19?
A. Our rapid antibody tests are most accurate once the immune system has recognized the presence of infection and mounted a response (production of antibodies). This window of time typically falls between 5-10 days after symptoms begin (note that this is not 5-10 days after infection). Q. What is the FDA status of the test?
A. Our COVID-19 rapid IgM antibody test is authorized for use under Section IV.D of the FDA’s Policy for Diagnostic Tests for Coronavirus Disease-2019, updated last on 03/16/2020. www.fda.gov/regulatory-information/search-fda-guidance-documents/policy-diagnostic-tests-coronavirus-disease-2019-during-public-health-emergency. |
